I was born in a very busy little city in New Jersey just a hop, skip, and jump across the river from New York City. Now I live 3,000 miles away in Seattle where I write books and stories for elementary and middle grade kids, including Chasing at the Surface, which won the 2016 National Outdoor Book Award for Children.
Here are a few more fun facts about me: I have curly hair that I tried to iron when I was a kid. I have a three-tone laugh. I write stories about things I like to eat (bagels) and love to do (whale watch and swim). I love poetry and hope to write poems for children some day. My heroine and source of inspiration is Kay Thompson’s scandalous child creation, Eloise, who lives in the Plaza Hotel near Central Park. My dog, Mr. Darcy, is named after a famous literary character. (Can you guess the book? Hint: Ask one of your parents or another adult).
I have a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from the Whidbey Writers Workshop. I also work with students from public and independent high schools, locally and nationally, helping them craft great college essays.
